The snowmobile trails located just east of Rocky Mountain National Park around Gould, Rand, and Walden offer over 100 miles of groomed trails. These trails run across rivers, over passes, and through meadows allowing you to view multiple mountain ranges as you have fun exploring all that the area has to offer. Access to the trails is from 4 major trailheads: Ruby Jewel, Gould, 7 Utes, and Agnes Lake.
Ruby Jewel Trailhead - Take Highway 14 north of Gould and turn right onto Road 41. You'll cross over Canadian River and come to a parking area where you can load and unload your sleds. Access the Custer Draw and South Canadian trails. These trails are for beginners to intermediate riders and have play areas for advanced riders and are located within Colorado State Forest State Park.
Gould Snowmobile Trailhead - This trailhead is located just on the south side of Gould. Access the Owl Mountain trail and Tower Loop; these trails are for beginner and intermediate riders but also have some un-groomed, off the trail areas for the more advanced riders.
7 Utes Trailhead - 7 miles east of Gould along Highway 14 is the trailhead. The first trail you will find is the Calamity Pass trail. Crossing over the pass, you'll find Jack Creek and Illinois Pass trails (if you continue south on the Illinois Pass trail, you'll connect to the Grand Lake trail system). The more advanced riders will enjoy the southern trails as they climb up into the high alpine and over peaks.
Agnes Lake & Cabin Trailhead - Just east of the closure gate on Highway 14 is the Agnes Lake & Cabin Trailhead. Beginners and intermediate riders will have fun riding along the American Lakes trail, but some more advanced riders will enjoy the hill climbing in this area. Be aware and use caution, avalanche danger is higher in this area so think before you climb. Make sure to watch for signs as the far eastern border of this trail is Rocky Mountain National Park and there is no snowmobiling allowed in the National Park.
The area surrounding Winter Park has many miles of snowmobile trails, open meadows, and steep mountain areas. Only 65 miles West of Denver, the trails wind through the Arapaho National Forest. This area is perfect for beginner and intermediate riders and families who are looking for experience Colorado's backcountry. This area encompasses 13,000 acres in the Arapaho National Forest.
The snowmobile areas start at the Elk Creek Trailhead, Church Park Trailhead, and Experimental Forest Trailhead. The trails start just a few miles West of Highway 40; go by Ptarmigan Peak, part of the Ptarmigan Peak Wilderness Area.
East of Highway 40 is the Meadow Creek Reservoir Trail. The reservoir is part of Arapaho National Recreation Area (ANRA) and covers 50 acres; it is the most remote part of the ANRA at nearly 10,000 feet elevation. Ride up to the Continental Divide and see gorgeous views of Winter Park and the Fraser Valley.
The Snowy Range of Wyoming is one of the best snowmobiling destinations in the country. Explore 200 miles of groomed trails and 120 miles of marked and ungroomed trails through the forested glens and rolling meadows of the Snowy Range from a snowmobile. The Laramie area boasts some of the most consistent and fluffy powder in the American West, receiving over 300 inches of snow per year, and a snowmobile is the perfect way to get acquainted with this vast playground.
There’s plenty of country to explore in the magic alpine zone between 7,000 and 11,000 feet. Temperatures can range from 30F degrees to -30F degrees, so bring appropriate layers, mittens, and face shields.
With marked groomed and ungroomed trails, the area around Laramie offers an incredible variety of snowmobile terrain. Beginners will find gentle hills suitable for a first ride, while more experienced riders can enjoy steep slopes.
Whatever your experience level, a snowmobile can take you far away from the crowds and transport you to the solitude of the high open plains and mountains in deepest winter. Enjoy grand mountain vistas, dense forests, and the wide open sky and be warm and cozy in your hotel by evening.
